"Where you can stroke fishes"

Beneath the Zoological Garden there is the building of the Berlin Aquarium. You can see a lot of fishes in their pools but it was tricky to take pictures because of the darkness of the exhibition. In the top levels of the Aquarium there are the reptils and here it is better to photograph.

Our flihgt back from Heraklion to Germany was side by side to the Croatian Coast. In former times (from 1974-1990) I spent most of my holidays in Vranjica some kilometers away from Trogir. So the view out of the airplane was a travel backwards to my youth.

Frangokastello is the location of a castle and scattered settlement on the south coast of Crete, about 12 km. east of Chora Sfakion and within the prefecture of Chania. The castle was built by the Venetians in 1371-74 as a garrison to impose order on the rebellious Sfakia region, to deter pirates, and to protect Venetian nobles and their properties. The monastery of Arkadi is an Eastern Orthodox monastery, situated on a fertile plateau 23 km to the southeast of Rethymnon on the island of Crete. The current catholicon (church) dates back to the 16th century and is marked by the influence of the Renaissance. Situated on a plateau, and surrounded by a thick and high wall, the monastery is also built like a fortress. The monastery played an active role in the Cretan resistance of Ottoman rule during the Cretan revolt in 1866. 943 Greeks, mostly women and children, sought refuge in the monastery. After three days of battle and under orders from the hegumen (abbot) of the monastery, the Cretans blew up barrels of gunpowder, choosing to sacrifice themselves rather than surrender. "Strolling along the coast"
